Jazzy Strings Workshop: Pictured above: Rick Morton, Shelby Eicher, the late Earl Clark and Jim Bates were our instructors in 2009. This summer, 1st of Aug 2010,  we performed pieces as a  tribute to our friend, Earl Clark, who passed away earlier this summer. We will miss him and continue his beautiful work of teaching young students to love jazz! We performed Pink Panther, Georgia on my Mind, and there was not a dry eye in the house for our tribute: Over the Rainbow - for Earl. The students did a lovely job - Also performed the evening of Aug 6: Bubbles In My Beer and Carrol County Blues, both Shelby's arrangements, Milk Cow Blues, Karen's arrangement, and C Jam Blues.  Our instructors were Shelby Eicher, Jim Bates and we were joined by "Slushpump" Steve Ham, of the Jambalaya Jass Band,  this summer.

We will continue learning classical, jazz, blues and rock for the THO repertoire during the year for 2010-2011. Repertoire will include: The Bach Double, Palladio and J.C. Bach Concerto in C minor with Sarah Thomas as our viola soloist  for Chamber. Sarah  performed this summer at Carnegie Hall in NYC and we are pleased she will be one of our soloists for the season. THO repertoire will include many Beatles tunes,  many Irish tunes, Kashmir by Led Zeppelin, Dance of the Tumblers by Rimsky-Korsakov, and much more. There are 43 songs in the THO Folder! The Debutante Orchestra will start with simple sightreading, then work their way through beginning Mark O'Connor tunes such as Beautiful Skies, also with easy Classical tunes such as Rigadoon and Barn Dance.

Emma Jane Pendleton was our guest performer last season, 2009-2010, with the Mozart Violin Concerto in A Major, 1st movement. She will be performing the Mozart Violin Concerto in D Major, 1st movement  with some of our advanced students at the Dec 13 Holiday Concert at the Jazz Hall, as well as Sunday, Dec 12 at the 1st Presbyterian Church this December 2010 as part of our Holiday Concert program.  Emma has been performing as a violinist since the age of 4.  Emma, currently a Junior in high school, is a magnificent performer.  She has performed with her family in the Pendleton Family Fiddlers for the Garth Brooks Gala, the Toby Keith Gala, has performed with Jana Jae and Lyle Lovett and has won numerous awards at fiddle contests throughout the country.
