Jazzy Strings Workshop: We just had a blast at our last Jazzy workshop! The dates were the 1st week of August, 2009 - we hope to do this again for next year. Our instructors were phenomenal! We enjoyed: Rick Morton, Shelby Eicher, Earl Clark and Jim Bates as our instructors this year.(pictured above listed in order from left to right.) Highlights included: Sonny Speaks, Angeline the Baker, C Jam Blues, New York, New York and Freddie Freeloader. We discussed going to the Kansas City Jazz Museum as a performance trip in the Spring because we had so much fun learning jazz tunes this summer!
We will continue learning classical, jazz, blues and rock for the THO repertoire during the year. Repertoire will include: Kashmir by Led Zeppelin for Chamber, Angeline the Baker, Boogie Woogie and Sonny Speaks for THO, Liberty Bell and Appalachia Waltz for THO, Blues for Oaktown by Darol Anger for Chamber.
Emma Jane Pendleton, Guest Performer. We will perform the Mozart Violin Concerto in A Major, 1st movement with a guest soloist, Emma Jane Pendleton. Emma has been performing as a violinist since the age of 4. Emma, currently a sophomore in high school, is a magnificent performer. She has performed with her family in the Pendleton Family Fiddlers for the Garth Brooks Gala, the Toby Keith Gala, has performed with Jana Jae and Lyle Lovett and has won numerous awards at fiddle contests throughout the country. This piece will be performed as the final selection at the December 14, 2009 Tulsa Honors Orchestra Holiday Concert at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.
